Welcome to our first episode of Warm Winter Gems, a guide to hidden gems and our favorites. In this episode, we’re spotlighting The Antipodean, a charming spot in Minsheng area in Taipei that opened its doors in 2016 serving delicious brunch dishes and coffee.

Andy, the founder, moved to Australia at the age of 11 and was captivated by how coffee shops are at corners of every street and how coffee became a daily necessity for people. Ever since, enjoying a cup of coffee before starting the day became a daily ritual for Andy which inspired him to start his own cafe business in Taiwan to share his love for coffee culture.
When brainstorming the name of the cafe, Andy came across the term ”The Antipodean" in a British magazine. He learned the word is commonly used by British to refer to "people and things from Australia and New Zealand” from the word "Antipodes” which means "opposite points on the globe”. Since it is not a common word, it has a mysterious and intriguing charm.
